~ Friday July 21st & Saturday July 22nd, 2006 ~

This was the first year doing two nights (and probably last as we've since moved into the brand new Jeff Healey's Roadhouse - which has about double the capacity of the old venue). The smaller crowd on the Friday turned the night into almost ‘pre-vibe’ although certainly not in terms of talent, because both nights featured some of the greatest performances this show has ever seen.

FRIDAY July 21st, 2006:

At noon, received word from a very disappointed Tony Powell that Animal Grace had been turned away at the border for what turned out to be pretty much arbitrary reasons. The boys had driven 4 ½ hours from Ohio just to get to the border. They were crushed. To say that Tony and the guys were enthused about coming up to play would be somewhat of an understatement. ...and, as they were due to perform both Friday and Saturday, there was no small amount of juggling to be done. They were missed...

Animal Grace: Tony Powell, Mark Palmer, Bob Myers, Kenny Barnett

-Intro - as I do every year, I took to the stage with a brief introduction to the night, followed by a recorded greeting from Phil's mother Philomena in Ireland...

-Black Tea (formerly Beyond Therapy) - Don Norry, Abel Biro, Dave Allard, Pat Downey

...kicked off the night with relish on...

-Ballad Of A Hard Man
-Hollywood
-Don’t Talk About Me Baby

-Crazy Babies - Rod Clarke, Ron Basehart, Dave, Mark

-It Doesn’t Matter (dedicated to Phil)
-Parisienne Walkways
-Suicide

Rod's original, 'It Doesn't Matter' was awesome, but, without a doubt, these guys OWNED ‘Suicide’! It was unbelievable.

-Black Tea

...Jimmy Coup who was due on next, had been delayed both at Pearson and due to an unscheduled stop in Cincinnati due to bad weather. ...fortunately, Black Tea had one more shot of Lizzy in them and they got back up to rock the crowd with...

-Angel Of Death

-Jimmy Coup

After plane groundings and *five* separate interviews by customs at Pearson Airport, Jimmy Coup rolled in from L.A. and won over the crowd in seconds!

-Little Girl In Bloom
-Romeo & The Lonely Girl
-Borderline
-She Knows
-Dear Lord

-Des Leahy & Friends - Joe Atkins, Gary Atkins, Chad Campbell, Mark Yanetta, Des Leahy

Des and the boys jumped on-board late in the game and he and the lads (4/5ths of The McBrides really) kicked *serious* ass!

-Emerald
-Dancing In The Moonlight
-Fool’s Gold
-Don’t Believe A Word
-Still In Love With You
-Got To Give It Up

-Exodos - George Kostoglou, Styro Gazetos, Demo Lintzeris, Tykos

Since I started putting together these shows five years ago, I’ve been trying to get my good friend (and killer bass player) Tykos involved. As I always try to do, in the spirit of celebrating the diversity of Phil Lynott's music, Exodos is a band the likes of which the TLC stage had never seen. Exodos my friends is a *killer* traditional Greek band! ...and they smoked!

-Randolph’s Tango
-Harlem
-She Knows

I swear, with a smaller crowd than Saturday’s, and a *tonne* of amazing players, dude on bouzouki got a bigger audience reaction to his solos than any of the guitar players over both nights! The crowd went nuts!

-Gorgeous George - Jonah Ward, Greg Klein, Hank, Kevin, Steve Ashton

Never failing to kick ass (a lot of ass kicking going on... trend?), this year joined by another dear friend, all the way from Halifax, Steve Ashton.

-Whisky In The Jar
-Little Darling
-Killer On The Loose
-Cowboy Song

-Crash Kelly - Sean Kelly, Allister Thompson, Jordan Stewart, Kevin Taylor

Sean and the boys are always great. Despite his amp blowing up mid-song, the band continued on unfazed and the crowd ate it up appreciatively. Jimmy, unaware that the amp was dead, jumped on stage and tried to get the guitar running again, only to end up singing back-up with the boys for the remainder of their set...

-Waiting For An Alibi
-Southbound
-Are You Ready
-Rosalie

-...and more (feat. Jonah) - Tim Foy, Steve Fantaske, Bernie Kehler, Steve Ashton

The night was rounded out in fine form with an impromptu sharing of vocal duties between Jonah, Jimmy Coup and Chad Campbell.

-Jailbreak
-Boys Are Back In Town

SATURDAY July 22nd, 2007:

By the time I took the stage to kick off the night’s festivities, not only was the crowd already noticeably larger than the previous night’s at its peak, but there was a palpable buzz of enthusiasm in the room...

-INTRO...

-Last Chance Band - John Kelly, Dave Copeland, Keith Williams, Bill Reid, Mike Gogarty

-Rocky
-This Is The One

I had a blast jumping on stage and provided my best ‘Kid Jensen’ narration on

-The Hero & The Madman

Damn, we had fun with that! Next up was...

-Jimmy Coup

...a little more rested and ready to rip it up again...

-She Knows
-Borderline
-Silver Dollar
-Dear Lord

-Crunchberry - Frank Martin, Rob Doyle, Jeff McNabney

...again with special guest, the inimitable Carmen Cariaso shredding the room to pieces!

-Hollywood
-Are You Ready
-Thunder & Lightning
-Nineteen
-The Rocker

Providing a moment of well-earned calm after the wicked, break-neck Crunchberry performance was...

-Emm Gryner

Emm performed only one song on piano but it was wonderful...

-Running Back

Next up...

-"The BKE" (eventually the band would settle on 'Thrillhammer') - Ilios Steryannis, Bernie Kehler, Ron Koop, Kevin Reid

The crowd at Healey's on this night were witness to an amazing treat... the birth of a band. Damn these guys were astounding! I expected Bernie (ex-National Anthem) and the lads to kick ass and they didn't disappoint! ...and Kevin’s whiskey-soaked vocals and killer guitar playing brought it all to another level! The boys jumped into the line-up only a couple of weeks before, but man did they ever rip the joint up!

-Still In Love With You
-Warrior

-Gorgeous George - Jonah Ward, Steve Ashton

One of the many incarnations of the floating moniker "Gorgeous George". This time as an acoustic duo, the self proclaimed quieter side o’ Lizzy... beautiful.

-Dublin
-Romeo & The Lonely Girl
-Wild One
-Southbound

-Flying Eyes - Graham Mackey, Andrew Staniland, Craig Kenney, Damian Coleman, Ryan Thompson

Great guys and huge fans. A different incarnation performed last year as 'Thinkum'. They did a fantastic version of ‘Old Town’!

-Massacre
-Hey You
-Old Town

-Tacoma Redd - Chris Bell, Doug Smart, Dean, Bryan Richards, (and special guest) Paul Harrington

Dudes killed! Always a highlight of the show. ...every year these guys seem to reach new heights!

-Bad Habits
-Cold Sweat
-Rosalie

Next up was my dear friend...

-James ('Lamont MacAndrewes') Andrews (W/ Steve Ashton, Jonah, & Jimmy Coup)

This performance was literally thrown together *5* minutes before going on! The crowd ate it up! Part way through, James jumped into the audience with a mic getting them to sing... awesome!

-Dancing In The Moonlight

-...and more (feat. James Andrews) - Tim Foy, Steve Fantaske, Bernie Kehler, Steve Ashton

The tiny Healey's stage was jam packed with about *30* musicians! My good friend Kevin Hilliard (formerly of Nat. Anthem, currently Galore) popped on stage to play a deadly combo of beer bottle and music stand... and I dragged a passing Fred O’Neill (who has taken the stage at more than a few Lizzy Celebrations) up on stage to belt out some back up...

-Jailbreak
-Boys Are Back In Town

And so it was... completely wiped-out after two solid nights of rockin' out, but still riding high, that another year was behind us...
